THIS WILL WORK WITH GM MODELS MADE AFTER 1987 IF YOU HAVE A POST-1987 MODELS WITH THE 12-PIN CONNECTORS (SOME OF THE BUICK AND OLDSMOBILE WAGONS STILL USED THIS OLD STYLE CONNECTOR UP UNTIL 1990) THIS WILL WORK ON YOUR CAR! PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION ABOUT THIS RADIO AND FEEL FREE TO ASK ME ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE!! Although this fits a wide range of GM vehicles, PLEASE DOUBLE-CHECK YOUR COMPATIBILITY and ALSO REALIZE THAT YOU CAN REUSE YOUR OLD MOUNTING BRACKETS AS THEY ARE EASLY MOVED ON ALL OF THESE STYLE RADIOS!! First, let me say that the photos in this listing are of the ACTUAL radio you will get -I do NOT use "stock" photos!
I have also included photos of the actual unit being bench-tested after repairs (2nd, 3rd and 4th photos). This radio is in 100% working condition and will look GREAT once it's new owner puts a good detail on it.Although the photos of it on the bench show it having standard GM knobs, I replaced them with the Cadillac-style knobs with the wreath and this is what the radio will come with when I send it. If you want the other style, let me know. The radio was not abused at all, but very dusty from sitting before being disassembled, repaired and worked on-under all that dust was a very nice-looking unit.
I t was disassembled, tested and repaired by a professional radio repair shop here in San Antonio and aside from the necessary repairs, it was. Was cleaned inside and out, adjusted and lubed and belts and bulbs replaced. When the stereo receives a FM stereo broadcast, the "Stereo" indicator lights up brightly. The push-buttons also work very well and push in very easily, and for storing and recalling the set stations. The stereo also has the SEEK/SCAN features built in. The SEEK feature allows the radio to pick the next best received station without turning the knob.
The SCAN feature will do it automatically, staying on each station for five seconds before moving to the next. The "SCAN" indicator will light up for whenever the stereo is in SCAN mode. The LED digital readout is in excellent working condition, with no parts of the characters of the numerals are burned out or dull, and have a very nice WHITE color (see 3rd and 4th pics for backlighting illuminated). The stereo is also equipped with a digital clock that displays when the key is turned on and when the radio is off, or after five seconds after tuning in a station. I had the clock hooked up for a couple of hours, and it kept perfect time. The cassette tape player also works perfectly and tapes play very clear with no sound distortions or garble. The capstans and head were cleaned, and the speed of the playback was correctly adjusted. The fast forward and reverse switches also works very well, with a quick and quiet motion. The original belt was REPLACED to give you years of future usage.
The tape inserts and ejects nicely. The auto reverse feature also works correctly, with pushing in the top knob automatically plays the other side of the tape; the tape will also switch sides automatically when it is finished playing on one side. The correct tape LED light comes on for whichever direction the cassette tape is playing.
The four original illumination light bulbs are also still working perfectly, and light up the entire face-plate brightly and evenly in a soft white color. Cosmetically, though the unit is used, it is in GREAT condition; all of the buttons have great finish the digital display lens cover is clear with only minimal wear and marks.
All of the font is crisp and clear and looks great; the tape door is also in good condition with minimal wear as shown ; Actually, the only real "wear" is on the edges of the faceplate which will be hidden by the factory faceplate once it is installed in your GM vehicle. I decided to keep the original door because all the lettering was nice still. ALL the mounting brackets can be removed and you can re-use your existing brackets to mount this radio correctly-as long as you have the "square" radio like these that GM made starting in 1984, then this will work with your old brackets; again, you can also re-use your original knobs if you prefer. ALL digital display numerals also work 100% as shown being bench-tested in the photos; it is not PERFECT like a new one would be, but works flawlessly and is VERY clean cosmetically.
